A Leicestershire housebuilder is doing its bit to help the NHS during the nationwide health emergency.

David Wilson Homes East Midlands has donated hundreds of surplus masks to support NHS workers at hospitals across the Midlands.

The 780 masks, typically used by the developer’s site teams to protect them from dust and fumes, are rated as FFP3, which means they are capable of filtering out the coronavirus.

They have been given to the hospitals’ doctors and nurses in light of a chronic shortage of adequate personal protective equipment within the NHS following years of underfunding.

Sites benefitting include the Leicester Royal Infirmary, Loughborough Hospital, Glenfield Hospital, Royal Derby Hospital, the Queen’s Medical Centre, Nuneaton Hospital, Coventry Hospital and Sheffield General Hospital.

John Reddington is managing director at David Wilson Homes East Midlands, which is based at the headquarters of parent company Barratt Developments.

He said: “The donation of high quality FFP3 protective masks from our site teams across Leicestershire, Derbyshire, Nottinghamshire and Warwickshire will hopefully help NHS employees to continue the admirable work they do on a daily basis.

“We’re proud of our employees for their decision to support those whose need is greater, and we’re thrilled to make the most of this opportunity to support our key workers.
