How new student accommodation in Traffic Street, in Nottingham, could look

Another big student accommodation scheme has been given the go-ahead in Nottingham.

Planning has been given for a 297 bedroom student scheme in Traffic Street, in the city’s Southside regeneration area.

The site is currently occupied by a car park as well as two industrial units which will be demolished to make way for the plans.

The site is being developed by Urban Developments (York) Ltd’s Engage student brand, which are both part of York based Urban Group (York) Ltd.

It comes at the same time that Study Inn Group is investing £35 million in a 270-bed scheme next to the University of Nottingham’s Jubilee campus - its second in the city.

Meanwhile, developer Jensco wants to build a 356-bed student scheme, which could reach up to 20 storeys high on the site of the former Sentinel building, also in the Southside regeneration area.

Work on the five and six storey Engage scheme is set to start next year to designs drawn up by Leeds-based Brewster Bye Architects.

It will offer a mix of cluster apartments and studios, as well as study rooms, a communal lounge, gym, cinema, laundry facilities and cycle storage.
