A French-owned aircraft landing and breaking systems business has opened a new engineering and support centre in Gloucester. Safran Landing Systems is part of Paris-headquartered aerospace giant Safran SA and employs more than 1,200 in Gloucestershire.

The new hub is part of a three-phase investment project at the Gloucester site that includes the renovation of existing facilities, the construction of new buildings and the creation of a showroom.

The building will have a reduced carbon footprint, wellbeing spaces, break-out areas on each floor and facilities to encourage staff to cycle to work.

Safran recently agreed a 10-year partnership with French utility company Engie that will allow its entities in the º£½ÇÊÓƵ to meet electricity requirements using º£½ÇÊÓƵ solar production, the company said.

"We are delighted to open this world-leading facility today, that will support the design and development of the next generation of aircraft landing systems on our Gloucester site," said François Bastin, chief executive of Safran Landing Systems.

"This investment is not only fantastic for our workforce and the local area, it is a further commitment from Safran to the long-term future of aerospace in the region."

The announcement follows a major recruitment drive by the business, which established its Gloucester site in 1937.

Last year, Safran in Gloucester welcomed 204 new employees, particularly in the machining and assembly trades. Since the start of 2025, the company has hired a further 30 new recruits.
