39-storey Birmingham apartment block tops out

Moda marks milestone as its latest resi scheme in the city takes shape

A topping out ceremony was held to mark construction reaching the highest point on Moda's Great Charles Street scheme in Birmingham

A new apartment complex in Birmingham city centre has reached a construction milestone.

The £302 million Great Charles Street scheme is being delivered on a former council car park in Ludgate Hill on the edge of the city's Jewellery Quarter and will contain 722 apartments to rent across three blocks.

The tallest of which will be 39 storeys and sit at the corner of Great Charles Street and Livery Street.

In addition to the apartments, amenities will include a gym, co-working spaces, private dining rooms, cinema room, sky lounges and roof terraces alongside a regular programme of events for tenants. There will also be ground-floor retail units to let.

Harrogate-based developer and operator Moda is delivering the project, in Broad Street which opened in 2022, and New Garden Square in Hagley Road, some of which has already completed.

A topping out ceremony was held to mark the milestone after spades first went in the ground in Ludgate Hill just over two years ago.

Contractor Sisk is building the complex, with funding from Apache Capital, Harrison Street and NFU Mutual.
