A major new mixed-use regeneration scheme in Birmingham city centre has moved a step nearer.

The £360 million Curzon Wharf project, tabled for canalside land in Mill Street next to Dartmouth Circus island, received consent last April and will contain apartments, student accommodation and other uses.

A Section 106 agreement has now been agreed between its developer Woodbourne Group and Birmingham City Council, taking the project another step closer to seeing spades go into the ground.

Among its terms are a promise to provide five per cent affordable housing as part of the project.

Curzon Wharf will be led by a 53-storey, build-to-rent tower containing 498 apartments which, at 564 feet, would be the city's tallest.

Other planned accommodation includes a 41-storey student accommodation tower with 732 bedrooms, 14-storey 122-unit residential block and nearly 130,000 sq ft of office, R&D and life sciences space.

There are also plans for more than 3,000 sq ft of retail units, 15,000 sq ft of leisure space and 76,400 sq ft of public realm alongside walking and cycling routes.
