Buildings for prayer, rest and work are competing for the Small Non-Residential Scheme of the Year prize in the 2019 ProCon Leicestershire property and construction awards.

In the running for the award are a hotel created from a Georgian gem, the remodelling of a city centre church and a temple to architectural practice.

The category, sponsored by Infrastructure Investments, is one of seven in this year’s ProCon Awards. The ProCon Awards’ overall sponsors are Galliford Try Partnerships, Salus Approved Inspectors and Unique Window Systems. The Leicester Mercury is the Awards’ media partner.

2019 ProCon finalist Holy Trinity Church, Leicester

The Holy Trinity Church in Leicester has been modernised to increase capacity and improve both access and flow.

The main church building opened in 1838 and links through to a traditional 1930s house via a series of extensions completed in the 1980s. The church had what was described as a fairly bland but functional interior

The main hall has now been altered to increase the size of the balcony. The capacity has gone up from 450 people to 600. Two new staircases allow worshippers to access the balcony more easily.
