A North East developer has unveiled plans for a new a £15m residential skyscraper in a Newcastle suburb.

Jomast Developments acquired the former Scottish Life House Estate 15 years ago, sparking the transformation of the dated buildings for new, modern uses.

The site close to Newcastle’s Central Motorway is now home to the Jesmond Three Sixty scheme which has apartments, offices and a range of bars and restaurants, with a hotel, serviced apartments, gym, retail space and a multi-storey car park set to follow.

Now, Jomast has unveiled plans for a conjoined residential scheme of 12 and 18 storeys featuring around 85 apartments, standing 187 feet high.

That makes it one of the tallest housing new schemes in Newcastle, behind the emerging Hadrian’s Tower on St James’ Boulevard, which will be 270 feet high when complete.

The new private rental scheme, designed Jesmond Three Sixty-based architects GT3, will have private doorstep gardens and terraces, as well as communal rooftop gardens giving residents panoramic views across the city.

The earmarked site, next to Jesmond Road, was previously occupied by the Quaker Meeting House, which was demolished in 2018.

Jomast’s development director Adam Hearld said: “This proposal will create an impressive residential development and complete the highly successful Jesmond Three Sixty scheme.
