SLC Operations secures new MEIF funding

Train operating and training company will use fresh injection of capital to create jobs and deliver training

A train operating and driver training company has secured a £750,000 funding package to create jobs, develop new products and boost its marketing.

Birmingham-based SLC Operations hires qualified train drivers to passenger, freight and track maintenance rail operators throughout the º£½ÇÊÓÆµ.

Through its Rail Academy division, it delivers driver training and support as well as assessments for apprentices and it is developing its own online learning platform and digital learning materials, supported by classroom-based activity.

It said the new injection of capital would be used to create 28 new jobs in the region, doubling its existing workforce.

The business has been awarded licensed train operator status, enabling it to provide a range of operational services including driver and guard hire, new rolling stock.

The Kings Norton company, which was launched in early 2020, has secured contracts with the likes of Balfour Beatty and Colas Rail and most recently ran a fully electric mainline passenger train at the COP26 conference in Glasgow.

Managing director Cath Bellamy said: "The last 12 months have been spent establishing the business, both from an operational and training perspective.
