Specialist manufacturers working in aerospace and robotics are among those who have won big at Make º£½ÇÊÓƵ's regional manufacturing awards.

A total of 10 companies took home prizes at the Yorkshire & Humber and North East awards ceremony, organised by Make º£½ÇÊÓƵ, the industry body for the manufacturing industry.

The evening's top award was presented to Bradford based Produmax Ltd, which was named SME Manufacturer of the Year.

The company makes high precision components for the aerospace sector, machining highly specialised materials such as steel, aluminium and titanium. It was recognised for its growth over the last five years along with its consistent programme of engaging with its workforce investing in technology.

Mandy Ridyard, Financial Director at Produmax said: “We are delighted with this award as it recognises the passion and resilience of the whole Produmax family. Our incredible growth pre COVID and resilience since the pandemic is due to our dynamic team of people.”

Another of the night's big winners was Northumberland manufacturer Tharsus.

The business is best known for manufacturing robots that are used by delivery giant Ocado to pick out and transport groceries within its warehouse.

The company won the Manufacturing Matters Award for its work during the coronavirus pandemic. The robotics firm won the award for developing its Bump technology - a cutting edge piece of wearable tech that alerts users when they are too close to others. The system allows people to maintain social distancing.
