Ten Claire's Accessories stores in the West Midlands are set to close, it has been confirmed.

The affected shops are in Birmingham, Burton-upon-Trent, two in Coventry, Newcastle-under Lyme, Redditch, Rugby, Resorts World in Solihull, Tamworth and Walsall.

At present, they continue to trade and no date has yet been announced for them to shut but closing down sales have been launched to sell the remaining stock.

The update follows the news last week that Modella Capital had struck a rescue deal for the beleaguered Birmingham-based jewellery and accessories chain.

This saved 156 shops across the º£½ÇÊÓƵ and Ireland but left an uncertain future for a further 145.

The deal with Modella Capital saved around 1,000 jobs and came after the group's US parent company Claire's Holdings commenced Chapter 11 proceedings, leading to the º£½ÇÊÓƵ division going into administration on August 13.

The US business has since secured a buyer for 950 stores.

A statement from administrator Interpath said: "Our priority remains to assess all of the options available for the Claire's stores which did not transfer to Modella as part of the transaction announced on September 29.

"In the meantime, however, we have commenced closing down sales in each of the stores in order to sell the remaining stock."

Earlier this year, London-based Modella Capital acquired º£½ÇÊÓƵ high street stalwart WH Smith and last year bought out Hobbycraft which sells arts and crafts.
