New housing vision for Perry Barr Stadium

Developer outlines more details about his plans for greyhound and speedway track which has been earmarked for closure

CGI of plans to replace Perry Barr Stadium in Birmingham with up to 427 new houses, plays areas and parks

The future of Perry Barr Stadium in Birmingham has become clearer after developers announced details of its plans to regenerate the site.

Corbally Group says it wants to build up to 427 new houses on the plot north of the city centre and is now preparing a planning application to be submitted to the council.

The proposals also include a range of public and private gardens, play areas and interactive playgrounds as well as opening up the River Tame with a biodiverse riverside park which will be accessible to the public.

The site, in Aldridge Road, is currently used as a greyhound and speedway racetrack but the lease expires in 2026 and operator Arena Racing Company announced plans last month to develop new premises at Wolverhampton Racecourse.

If Corbally Group's proposals win the city council's backing, it would become the latest in a string of regeneration work to take place in the Birmingham suburb in recent years.

Fuelled by hosting last summer's Commonwealth Games, Perry Barr station has undergone a facelift while the former Birmingham City University campus has been turned into a new estate of around 2,000 houses.

This was originally set to be the athletes' village but the tight timeframe and covid pandemic meant a decision was taken to house them in student halls and hotels instead.
